About the Program: Records and Archives: A Personal Journey
John Mancini’s father — a kind and quirky happily married man and father of six, now gone for 36 years — NEVER discussed his family. The only thing the family knew was that his parents were Italian immigrants who had died in the 1930s. Except they didn’t. How did these two unknown grandparents simply disappear? Why? How does such a thing happen? John’s book, Immigrant Secrets, tells the story of this search.
John Mancini will use that story to reflect on the future of records and archives.
- Why are records, archives, and the people entrusted with their care more important than ever?
- What steps do we need to take NOW to make sure that future generations have access to the history that we are creating EVERY DAY?
- What does information stewardship look like in an era of rampant digital information chaos?
- Why does governance matter (not just to make our organizations safer and more productive, but to how our society will be remembered)?
- How do we want future generations to view our profession?
